Winter Sun 2026/27 from Canada: New Nonstop Routes to Mexico, Belize and Costa Rica
Canadian winter travellers have new nonstop sun routes for 2026/27, including Mérida, Belize City, Los Cabos, Punta Cana and Liberia.
Updated: August 15, 2026
Winter sun gets much more appealing when the trip does not begin with a connection. WestJet’s new 2026/27 schedule creates five fresh nonstop pairings from Canadian cities, and each one suits a slightly different kind of warm-weather escape.
Calgary to Mérida: culture with the heat
Mérida is ideal if you want Yucatán food, architecture and day trips without making an all-inclusive resort the centre of the holiday. The new weekly route begins December 17.
Winnipeg to Belize City: reef plus inland adventure
Belize can split beautifully between islands or coast and a few inland days around jungle, caves or Maya sites. The new Winnipeg nonstop begins December 14.
Ottawa to Liberia: Costa Rica without Toronto or Montreal
Liberia is the gateway for much of Guanacaste. The new Ottawa route begins December 20, making a beach-and-nature trip considerably simpler for travellers in the National Capital Region.
Regina and Winnipeg get classic resort choices too
- Regina to San José del Cabo starts December 14.
- Winnipeg to Punta Cana starts November 28.
- Both are useful for travellers who want a simple warm-weather week with minimal ground complexity.
- Weekly routes reward date flexibility, so compare the exact operating days before choosing hotel nights.
Quick questions
Are these routes daily?
No. The new routes announced by WestJet operate weekly, so hotel dates should be built around the flight schedule.
Which route starts first?
Winnipeg to Punta Cana begins November 28, 2026, according to WestJet.
The lovely part
Sometimes “luxury” is not a lie-flat seat. It is walking into your home airport, taking one flight, and stepping out somewhere that smells like warm air.
