WestJet Adds Five Winter 2026/27 Routes, Including Calgary–Mérida and Winnipeg–Belize
WestJet is adding five nonstop winter 2026/27 routes from Canadian cities to Mexico, Belize, Punta Cana and Costa Rica.

Updated: August 15, 2026
WestJet’s winter 2026/27 schedule adds five new sun routes across Canada, and the interesting part is how many of them connect cities outside Toronto and Vancouver directly with warm-weather destinations.
The five new routes
- Calgary-Mérida, Mexico, weekly from December 17, 2026.
- Winnipeg-Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, weekly from November 28.
- Regina-San José del Cabo, Mexico, weekly from December 14.
- Winnipeg-Belize City, Belize, weekly from December 14.
- Ottawa-Liberia, Costa Rica, weekly from December 20.
Mérida is the standout new city
The Calgary-Mérida route is especially interesting because it is not simply another resort-airport pairing. Mérida is a cultural and culinary base for Yucatán, with straightforward access to cenotes, historic towns and archaeological sites.
Why weekly service changes planning
A once-weekly flight can be wonderfully convenient but less forgiving. Build the hotel stay around the exact operating day and think carefully before booking separate onward tickets that assume the route will run every day.
What travellers should do now
If one of these routes matches your winter plan, compare the nonstop against a realistic connecting itinerary and set a fare alert. New capacity can make a route easier, but the best time to buy still depends on the fare you see and your date flexibility.
Quick questions
Which new route starts first?
Winnipeg-Punta Cana begins November 28, 2026.
Which route is new from Calgary?
Calgary-Mérida, beginning December 17, 2026.
The lovely part
For smaller Canadian markets, one weekly nonstop can be a very big deal. It turns the first vacation day from airports and connections into somewhere you actually wanted to be.
