There is no single “best” train from Heathrow because London is not one destination. The right choice depends on where your hotel is, how much luggage you have and whether your brain wants the fewest minutes or the fewest decisions after a long flight.

Heathrow Express: fastest to Paddington

Heathrow Express runs directly to London Paddington and advertises a 15-minute journey from Terminals 2 and 3. It is excellent if Paddington is useful to you, or if you value speed and a simple dedicated airport train.

Elizabeth line: often the best all-rounder

The Elizabeth line continues beyond Paddington through central London. If you are staying near Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon or farther east, it can remove the need to change trains, which matters more than a few minutes saved at the beginning.

Piccadilly line: useful for west and central London

  • Direct Underground access from Heathrow.
  • Good for areas around South Kensington, Knightsbridge, Piccadilly Circus and parts of central London.
  • More stops and a more ordinary Tube environment.
  • Can be perfectly sensible for light packers who are not in a rush.

Choose by hotel, not by airport marketing

Put your exact hotel into a journey planner and compare door-to-door travel, not just airport-to-central-terminal time. One extra Tube change with two suitcases can erase the advantage of the “fastest” first train.
