Europe Harvest Season 2026: Wine, Truffles and Food Trips for September to November
September to November is harvest season across parts of Europe. Plan 2026 trips around wine grapes, truffles, olive oil and local food festivals.

Updated: August 16, 2026
Autumn is one of the best times to travel through Europe if the thing you love most about a place is how it tastes. Vineyards are active, markets change, mushrooms arrive, olive harvests begin in warmer regions and truffle season starts pulling people toward small towns they might otherwise miss.
September: follow the grapes
Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Germany and other wine regions move through harvest at different times. The exact day depends on grape variety and weather, but September is when vineyards can feel like working landscapes rather than quiet tasting-room backdrops.
October and November: truffles and mushrooms
Parts of Italy, France and the Balkans become especially interesting for truffle fairs and mushroom-heavy menus. Build the trip around one region rather than trying to cross three countries for three famous ingredients.
Olive oil gets interesting later in autumn
- In Mediterranean regions, new-season olive oil begins appearing after harvest.
- Small producers may offer tastings or mill visits.
- Fresh oil can taste much greener and more peppery than the bottle you keep at home.
- If you are buying oil to fly with, remember liquid and checked-baggage rules.
Book the meal, then leave the afternoon open
Food trips are better when every meal is not a reservation. Choose one winery, one serious dinner or one festival day, then leave enough space for the bakery, roadside stand or market you did not know existed until you got there.
Quick questions
Is grape harvest the same week every year?
No. Weather, grape variety and region all change the timing.
Can visitors participate in harvest?
Some wineries and agritourism properties offer harvest experiences, but they should be booked directly and availability varies by producer.
The lovely part
Harvest travel is lovely because the destination is doing its own thing whether tourists are there or not. You get to visit while the place is busy being itself.
